Much of our experience of nature is mediated by our relationship to maps and our understanding of the cardinal directions. Flying in a plane removes the constraints of viewing things from only one perspective- and in this painting, up is not north. The shift in the scale of the objects that we see (trees, roads, houses, fields) allows us to see the world in a new and different way. In this way, I reflect on the many ways that the choices we make in our everyday lives shape how the world around us looks.
